Price for all workshops (except the Family Writing Project Workshop series) is $450 for a 90-minute session.  The four-session Family Writing Project costs $1700.

Elementary Workshops

How to Help Your Child with Writing: A Workshop for Parents

This 90-minute workshop helps parents and caregivers learn more about how to encourage their student writers in grades K – 8 at home. We’ll explore family activities that promote writing as well as effective ways to respond to children about their writing.  Up to 40 participants.


Make Way for Writing: A Family Writing Workshop

This 90-minute workshop brings family members together to experience the joy of sharing and writing stories about growing up. Up to 25 families or 100 participants.  Children, young people, and their parents will learn ways to call up significant memories, methods for getting writing started, and easy and practical techniques for helping each other as writers. We’ll also discuss some ideas for sharing this writing and continuing family writing at home.  Up to 25 families or 100 participants.


Make Way for Writing: The Family Writing Project

The Family Writing Project brings family members together to write and share stories about their communities and growing-up experiences—but this time over four 90-minute sessions spread out over a five-week time period that results in a book collection of student and family writing. Up to 25 families.


Writing Across Generations: A Workshop for Elementary Students and their Grandparents

This 90-minute workshop brings together children and their grandparents to share in the joy of relating and making memories through writing. This workshop can be adapted for specific holidays and events.  Up to 25 families.


Family Writing Fun Night

This 90-minute workshop engages families in fun writing activities to enjoy and continue to benefit from at home.  A sample of Family Writing Fun Night activities include: Writing in Secret Code, Your Life Sentence: Six Word Memoirs, Found Poetry, List Poems, and more.  Up to 25 families or 100 participants.



Middle School Workshops

Supporting Middle School Writers: A Workshop for Parents

This 90-minute workshop is for parents and caregivers who would like to learn more about how to encourage and support young teens as writers. We’ll explore a variety of activities that promote writing as well as effective ways to respond to adolescents about their writing. 

The Parent Workshop highlights best practices in the teaching of writing as well as family writing activities.  Up to 40 participants.


Preparing for High School Writing: A Workshop for Teens

This 90-minute workshop helps middle schoolers who wonder what high school and college writing will be like and what they can do now get ready for it. Up to 40 participants.  (Parents are welcome to attend.)
